“My house is small.” “The kids have the place a mess.” “It’s really not that pretty.”

These are the most common protests I hear when talking to clients about a potential in-home family or newborn session. Let me tell you though:

None of that matters!

I’m being honest when I tell you I don’t care about the mess, the size, the way you decorate. I know what I need to do to make it work and give you stunning photos in return.

For any of my typical in-home sessions, we use one, two, maybe, three rooms of your home: the living room, kitchen and bedroom. These are all the rooms you’d expect to hang out in the most, and we’ll stick to the areas within them that have flattering lighting. And don’t feel you need to deep clean these spaces either. Sure, a quick tidy of the spaces we’ve discussed beforehand will help me out, but clients can often find me moving things out of the frame and working around what’s there already!

I'm actually so confident in this that I used my own home that was well overdue for a deep clean, and decorated for Halloween of all seasons as an example.

Have I convinced you yet?

My job during your session is to capture the essence of your family and your family life, just as it is now. Crumbs on the table, marker drawings on the wall and laundry on the floor. It’s all part of your story and I know how to highlight what will matter in 5, 10, or 15 years and disguise what you’ll want to forget. So please know, your home is one of the single best places in this world to have your family session. It's where you settle down, raise your family, make all those special memories, where they are most comfortable, and their most authentic selves with you.

Don’t worry about the clutter. It’ll be beautifully you.

Life is mess.

And mess is life.

Embrace it.

Celebrate it.

Just don’t worry about it.
